My Humble Deception.

My photography style has always been that of the documentarian—where the omnipresent lens eventually disappears; guards are dropped and you are able to capture the genuine. But with those captures, and with time, came the question: “Am I the one living or am I just capturing those who do?”

This book is a magnification of a fifteen year period between 1998 and 2013. It’s an attempt to understand a life built around multiple personalities and moments. The arrangement of photos, non-chronological in order, is how I seek to visually juxtapose a set of experiences in order to unlock a complicated narrative. Locked on hard drives and stuffed in drawers, the publishing of these photos ensures these experiences, often constructed in hazy moments, aren’t confined to oblivion. This is my exploration into a creative life, but I wondered if it was all a mask—a collective deception masking a desperate life yearning for breath. This book was, in part, my catharsis—40 looms.
